Adorable! She likes her Montel Dogpedic bed, eh? Good for you for adopting an older dog. I think that is the way I'll go once Echo departs...

My 14 year-old girl started going off her back legs several months ago. She is now using a sling and a cart and is getting around just fine.
A blood test in March diagnosed her with Lyme disease, the probable cause of all of her troubles. Living in Vermont, I didn't think I needed to treat for ticks in January and February, but there's a lesson learned, I guess.
I can't remember how to post a pic. If someone wants to talk me through it you could see how cute she is!
We got her as a three-time loser at the shelter when she was 10. I don't know what's wrong with people - she's a dream to live with and I can't imagine anyone wanting to give her up!

All these dogs, wow, are we lucky or what? Chickbea, that dog is NOT a loser!!! And that beagle, does he have enough toys???

I thought of this thread last night as I was tending to the little princess.

I am now her personal attendant any time she wants to move around (she uses her cart but much prefers the sling, which means I have to be involved). I've gotten very good at interpreting if that "yip" means boredom, hunger, thirst, walk, potty, treat, pet me, move me, etc.
After supper it's time for PT - range of motion, balance and stability exercises. After that it's ear cleaning time, as the long course of antibioptics for the Lyme sparked her chronic ear infections. She poked herself in the eye with a twig and is getting drops for that. Then it's on to tooth brushing in hopes of keeping the few remaining teeth she does have. Next it's time for a tick-check (I'm obsessive about it since the Lyme diagnosis). Then a dose of Metacam for the aches and pains, and I can finally sit down to relax.
What's that? "Yip?" ...and I'm up again because now she needs...
