Old Fashioned Broody Hen Hatch A Long and Informational Thread

Well stony I think I have a roo in my last chicks to hatch. one of them is a little sparse in the feather department. the other one looks good. so we'll see in a few weeks it's 4 weeks and 3 days old today.
like I said not 100% but it is something I have noticed.

Perhaps a couple of chunks of watermelon would help broody Summer. It has water, and vitamins, and is quite cooling.

I will pick some up then. With a bit extra for tomorrow. Poor girl. There are vitamins in the water and the feed is only two feet from her nest but she just doesn't seem to want to touch any of it.

I know, not guessing. LOTS of broody experience WATCHING my hens do the work. Rule # 1 of broody's. Let them do it and just leave them alone. What ever happens was meant to happen
well the reason i say guess is because myne took a chicks on with out its being introduced it just walked up to her and she let it under her wing

broody pics. The chicks with the RIR are 24 hours old. The others vary in age. The 3 eating the water melon rind are the 3 who at 3.5 weeks old lost their mother to a fox. They are 7 weeks old now and happy lil chickens.

Well, for now I made her go outside... Right after I filled the outside waterer with fresh, cool water. I even gave her the food in a little pile on the ground which she seems to prefer to having a feeder.

And I have two pips!!! One of the large mix breed eggs and one of the Silkie eggs. :D

that can happen but is not the norm. Many hens will peck the new chick to death before you can do anything about it
