Old Fashioned Broody Hen Hatch A Long and Informational Thread

3 weeks today and they should both hopefully have babies! Daisy has a few feathers missing from being attacked by a bird of prey and mating damage. Will this affect her hatching abilities?

I have 12 week old RIR's and BR's that have been sitting on nest they made. Are they trying to go broody already? They still talk a little baby talk. Not the purrs and clucks like my 10 1/2 month old BB's.

Not likely. They are probably just practicing laying skills. I did have one pullet who never laid before who helped a broody hatch and raise her chicks. That was Vanilla Ice, a silky mix chick, who helped Topsy a silky with her brood. Vanilla has since started laying and cohatched out a chick with Shirley Jones another silky.
