Old Fashioned Broody Hen Hatch A Long and Informational Thread

Ahhh I'm going crazy! My broody's eggs were due to hatch on Christmas day. Today is day 23 and they are chirping up a storm but still no external pip. I never had a late hatch before its making me cuckoo :)

It is winter and cold weather can add a day or two. You will have chicks in the morn no doubt.

@AnnieIntheBurbs ....Congratulations...very cute and momma looks so pleased.

Found a fluffy baby this morning :)
Sadly the other egg piped and started zipping but didn't make it, there was blood all over so something went wrong :(

Can any of you remember Coco the chick that got caught in a rat trap? She was just about strangled to death when she was about 4 weeks old but she survived! She's the bottom hen now though but she still has her mam looking after her so she just hides behind her and sneaks into the top hen feeder next to her!

Thanks! They are so tiny! It's hard to tell from the pics, but the broody Mama is a bantam Langshan, she's not a LF like my others.

Congrats on the live one! It's sad, but we must try to foster healthy stock. :hugs

She is so pleased! It's amazing to watch her. The chicks continuously peck her face and her eyes, and she doesn't get upset at all. She is excellent, so glad I let her hatch out a clutch. :weee
