Hope your having a bit cooler days than we are! We're in NW Missouri and it's been horribly hot and humid. This current hatch produced 4 chicks out of 15 eggs. The rest were all rotten! I'm no expert for sure, but I can't help but think this excessive heat may have had something to do with it. None of my shipped eggs produced. But I know that's a risk. I may try it again sometime in the future. Appears that I had an exploded egg as well. At least it's done and poor broody can get up and around now....she was looking pretty down!
Good luck with your broody. Hope you stay cool and dry.
Thanks! We are just outside of St. Louis, so we are having the same weather. Out of my last 2 broodies, I had an egg explode ( in July) I tried to clean up the rest of the eggs, but didn't do very well. None of her eggs hatched & she finally just gave up. The other hen who was broody at the same time had 2 hatch, 1 later died. And then several days later it looked like 2 others hatched but never fluffed up or anything.
It looks like the barred rock is going to be serious so I am trying to figure out how to separate her & her nest box from the others so noone else will lay eggs after I give her the ones I want her to hatch. I think that was part of the problem last time.
