Old Fashioned Broody Hen Hatch A Long and Informational Thread

well I think you have made a good decision about moving her if she is being harassed, she'll like it better having her own space inside the coop. as far as nest goes is what ever you have on hand will work, you just want her and the chicks especially to be able to get in and out with out problems. leaving the crate door closed will probably help her stay more focused because when you open it up the other girls will probably start going in to investigate, if you can maybe take her out once or twice a day and let her relieve herself and dust bathe then put her back in and close the door. she'll be ragged by the time the 21 days are over but she should be fine. the pale comb is normal, you could try rubbing some vaseline or bag balm into her comb if it's worrying you. as far as the eggs go someone else will have to help you there, I've never used shipped eggs before, but making them use a non permanent marker. if you are going to have her closed up though where no other hen can get into her nest I wouldn't worry about the marking part of it. keep us updated on everything,

No broody ducks, not yet anyway--they are still young. I was just asking about nest boxes for ducks because I have yet to get an egg, and I wanted the coop to be an inviting place to lay so I'll be able to find them.

Thanks, Niss! Got some fabulous shots of them yesterday. Mom was teaching them how to forage for and eat hard boiled eggs from plastic dishes.

X2 Awesome pics! My birds are camera shy and my RIR roo has decided the camera is an evil device and attempts to defend the flock from it... Dumb male!!
