Well, the chicken just keeps going in their to lay her eggs (and when I find her I remove her), don't know if she'd brood them. And yes, nests on the ground. Actually I have my chickens nests on the ground too. Jersey Giants get huge and (from what I've read) shouldn't really have high roosts etc. I also thought that if I get a broody JG a nest on the ground may prevent eggs getting crushed as my coop is earthen floors.
Right now we have 3 female mallards 2 male mallards, 1 femal pekin, 1 male rouen/pekin mix. Unfortunetly its still to early here in Wisconsin for my flock to go broody but I'm crossing my fingers this snow will go away and they will get in the mood soon.
