Old fashioned Broody thread for ducks 2013 edition

Fantastic! cannot wait to see, were these the goose eggs? sorry don't recall.

took the goose eggs away from her and gave her 4 Muscovy eggs in their place, she has them outside but under the coop so I can't get a decent pic, but 2 yellow one dark and one typical dark with yellow and eye stripe. so 4for 4.

I am so happy for her and for you!!! This is the best news! How long do they sit on the ducklings?

Of course, I have a few questions. I am dying to get in and candle. There are so many eggs under them. They have been sitting full time now for 4 weeks, tomorrow. My best estimate is it is a matter of another week. Is it too late to try and move one of them to get a peek? I fear broken eggs, but there is no odor to really tell me they have busted shells. One of the broodys has a caniption fit when I bend over to talk to them. My girl just raises her neck up pretty and wants to hiss at me but doesnt. I just purchased starter food for the babies today.

This is driving me crazy!! LOL!!

Thanks DaytonDuckMom, she is acting very motherly, had a hissing battle with the goose a little while ago, through the fence. I think you should peak after all you have a vested interest in this too.

OHMYGOSH! Someone else had a chicken hatch ducklings!!! That's how I got into ducks! SO CUTE! Congrats!

There is 4 but when I was taking the picture I didn't know the 4th one had gotten out of the dog crate and had wandered in the back of it and was lost lol so I took the dog crate out.

Congrats Miss Lydia! How exciting!
So day 26 for my Call duck's nest is Thursday!! I have some questions:
The area that they will be in is a small pen, so I can have easy access. Hardware wire on two sides, rest is enclosed. Do I need to cover up both sides? It'd get awfully dark in there....or should I just cover one side and face the other towards south so they get lots of sun??? Also, can I give them a shallow pan of water without supervision?

Cover the one side and face south, you don't want them to feel they are in a cave. lol with a mama duck they can have a Very shallow pan of water. Mine actually get a cat litter pan. with a large rock so the can get out. Looking forward to seeing babies real soon now !!!

Thank you!, I'll do that.Thursday is hatch day! I've actually got a plastic pan that a danish came in.....it holds water and its 2"-3" deep. Eep I'm so excited! Just put up the wire divider so that she can see the other two ducks, but they won't be able to get at the babies. I'll move them to the different pen after they hatch, I just didn't want to move her before because I figured she'd abandon the nest. BTW your babies are DARLING! Little cuties!

Mrs. Duck could have already been sitting for a week, by my estimate. She's been staying in the bin for that long. I'm really hoping she has... I'm leaving in four weeks to go to a friends wedding, and I'll be gone 10 days. I don't want to miss my first grand-ducks!
Here's some pictures- Mrs. Duck on her nest (a bit dark, the bin is quite dark, especially when the rest of the coop is in direct, afternoon sunlight!)

Mr. Duck came in from a roll in a mud puddle to protect his wife, so he's a bit messy!

At coop lockup time a 3rd duckling was nearly hatched. Yeah I looked

. This BO isn't like my Sumatra's. I can lift her without blood...or at least too much.
