Old fashioned Broody thread for ducks 2013 edition

But today she didn't? well not sure whats going on there, are you sure you have your dates right?
She finally did come out to eat dinner.
Covered nest good and came out. She's off nest now.
First time she's left all day. Video below.
(yes, I may be a little obssessed

She started setting full time on Aug 10th, so I'm thinking Sept 5-6 for potential hatch?

That is so sweet and so cool that your getting to see this. I'm glad to see she came out they can get run down pretty quick so getting out is very important.

Where's Miss Lydia??

She's been so kind to answer my questions! LOL

New development today.
The other hens are guarding the nest too.

I could hear the ducks outside and I look up at TV to check on Delilah.
The other hens (I could just see their tails) were standing just outside of where Delilah's nest is guarding her from the boys!
As much as I love my boys, they can be a little "frisky" and they don't care mama sitting on eggs, all they care about is getting a little loving.
So the other hens, Largo in particular, were keeping the boys away!

Then later I saw mama get up to go out for awhile. I heard her (or what I thought was her fussing) so I went out back to check on things. Mama was all the way down at the "beach area" with the boys and it was the other hens left behind guarding the nest that were raising cain about the geese coming up into yard!!
They were not sitting on nest, but right there at it and were guarding it!!

Maybe they too can sense that things are getting closer??

9 days to go!!

Mama (Delilah) is in the middle in this video.
[FONT=lucida grande, tahoma, verdana, arial, sans-serif]She's the first one to start digging in the mud around the water dish.
I couldn't resist feeding them a little since they were all out there together. :)

Pretty cool that the other girls are helping out, My Scovy's don't do this at all. and how fun they all look like they are enjoying them selves so much.. I didn't know you had geese too. What are you going to do when hatch day comes do you think the ducklings will be alright with everyone being together?

Well, I don't have geese, the geese have just kind of invited themselves.
Canada geese.
Noisy filthy things.
My apologies to anyone who's a fan of the goose. LOL

The plan right now is to set up a pen for mama and babies till they are big enough to join the others.

Well my other post just disappeared so I'll try again, I guess anyone who has plenty of water is going to have the company of geese, I have 2 geese [not Canada's] We only have the mt river down below our home so I get to admire them from a distance. They don't mess with the ducks do they? and yes they are messy but I don't think anymore than ducks. Course I only have 2 to 16 ducks that maybe the difference.

sounds like a good plan to have mom and babies separate for a while. especially since I would be worried about her taking the babies to the water when so young.

The geese pretty much ignore the ducks. Except for mr drake Jmatt. He thinks he's a goose a hangs with them. I just call him my doose. LOL She's " chattering" this evening. No idea what this is about. She's not making any noise. [VIDEO]
