Old fashioned Broody Thread for Ducks

Pics
Wow, things are crazy. Of the 5 ducklings we kept from 2 Mama's - they are around 5 wks old - we have definitely identified one as a girl. One Mama is still sticking with the little ones but the other 3 are pretty much on their own. Now, I have a Magpie that is sitting on her eggs. No idea if they are even fertile as she lost her mate last year and I have seen one of the bigger call ducks mate her. Not sure what to expect if anything??? I do feel sorry for her - it has turned really hot and she sits in the nest with her head hanging down. But my big girl is a pea addict so frozen peas always perk her up!!

Magpie/call would make some pretty ducklings. I don't know how they sit during this weather, I have fans running in all my coops and it's still hot. Sounds like frozen peas are a girls best friend right now.

Hi all,
Daphne's brood is up to 6 now, 2 eggs still cooking.
3 and 3 (silver and bluehead)
Anyone near San Francisco/San Jose want some Australian Spotted ducklings??
10 more are under Babs. I think they will all be Siverheads.

Good idea, think I'll put a fan in for her. Here she is, my sweet big girl - well she used to be sweet - she's a bit grumpy since she went broody. I didn't think Magpies went broody - but she is lining her nest with feathers and once she got off to add more straw and hopped back on real quick when she saw me looking at her eggs. I think there may be 8, but not sure.

she's beautiful! I love her little crest. I'm sure she'll hatch you out some pretty babies too. I've heard of people using frozen water bottles to keep the ducks cool...you wouldn't want it too close to the eggs of course but maybe if you set a few in the coop it would help cool it down a little? perhaps set it so that the fan could blow that cool air towards the duckies.

She is too cute. Love how serious she is looking right now.

She is adorable!

Thanks all, we nearly lost her last year to a predator attack - her mate must have saved her. My hubby promised her a lifetime supply of peas if she would get well so you can guess she is very spoiled.
