Old fashioned Broody Thread for Ducks

Pics
Okay, so I got some, and here's the outcome:

1st Egg: Dark blob that moved on it's own. I have hope for that one.

Lots of veining.
2nd Egg: It was really covered in crud, so I didn't get a clear view, but I did see veins.
3rd Egg: This one looked like it had a huge dark yolk. It was round, like a yolk. And again, veins.
4rth Egg: This one had a tiny little dot that moved on it's own. Veins.
5th Egg: I did this one quickly, and I don't remember it that well, but I know it had veins, and I believe there was two round white dots right next to each other. They kinda looked like the way things turn out in a microscope. I don't think they moved, though.

(I just copied this from my other post) Thoughts?

What do I know but...Egg 1 sounds great! Veins have got to be good, to the degree that an embryo was alive once long enough to induce them. I should think that if the embryo died the veins would follow before too long. .? .. Did you mark them so you can figure out which is which next time???

Actually, what do yu use to maryour eggs. I've used pencil and it fades so quickly that I have a hard time reading thm. Grease pencil??

Yay! Thanks so much for the info, Margot! I knew that one had potential. I don't mark them, though it'd be handy. I read somewhere that the ink from a marker can seep into the egg pores and be toxic to the ducklings. Idk if this is true or not, but I'd rather not take the chance. And pencil wears off.

Using common sense, veins sound like a sign of life, so I'm guessing that most of them are living right now. Thanks again!

The ducks in your avatar are beautiful! I love the tan. My ducks are gray, white or black, so there's not a whole lot of variation. And your ducklings are simply precious!

Here is a great website with videos of candling of chicks but hey! a birds a bird right!!
Anyway, the clear message is that the veins disappear when the embryo dies (look at the pics of 'quitters')
And this is from U of Nebraska extension and so probalby good information
I bet several of yours, if not all of them, are alive (sort of anyway)

Omg!!!!! That means all of them were alive, just at different stages! Thank you so much! I've been stressing out over this for a while (I stress out over a lot of things. Having animals with special needs is quite stressing, as you may imagine), and now I know that they all could hatch.

So how are things going for everyone waiting? I found a tossed egg last night, well my husband did but i was brought out of coarse to investigate... no idea what was wrong, looked ok.. but dead nonetheless...

Looks like Lilac is down to two eggs? Lilly still has well over a dozen.. no babies yet but i will continue to check throughout the day... It's day 36? sigh. we suck at this, i am so done after these eggs.. never again...

Now i need to get ducks and plenty of them, i now have another drake... 'Junior' is totally a boy, i had been wondering in the past week or so but all doubt has been eliminated in his steady growth this past week. We will try and keep him since he may very well be our only live hatch ever... but he needs ducks too... this never ends.
