I have an approximately 8 year old silkie rooster, he’s my favorite little guy in the world, and while I suspect it’s just his age showing I’ve noticed he’s been frequently sitting back on his hocks.

And to be clear, he walks perfectly fine, stands up fully and everything to move around just like any other chicken. He just sort of rests back on them more often than not and is just a little lazier. He’s perfectly healthy and acts like himself otherwise, he even sized up one of my other roosters before for getting a little too close to me for his liking lol

I’ve been giving him some vitamin B supplements almost daily, but I’m wondering if there’s anything else I can do for him or if it’s something more that I should be concerned about.

Do you have photos of him?

It sounds like he's just may be relaxing more as he ages.

It certainly won't hurt to give him 1/4tablet B-Complex for a few weeks.

I'd just monitor him and check the back of his legs to make sure he's not getting any sores from sitting a lot.

Be sure that your b vitamins contain riboflavin (b2.) B complex tablets for humans do, but check your label for other vitamins and chick vitamins.
It does! We had initially got it for one of our hens a while back when she had a deficiency + they get a water supplement version of it too :]

Yeah! The best picture I have of him doing something similar as of right now is this one form a while ago. I can try to get a better picture of him tomorrow :]

Handsome Fella!

Does he have any Scaly Leg mites?
Isn’t he? 😌💕

He does not have any mites, at least as far as I’ve been able to see on him. He’s one of the birds I’m always checking over lol

We had a run in with them years ago before we moved states but we had gotten it sorted out then, and was fortunate to have caught it pretty early - their coop is treated every time I clean it out now as well but I could probably get him with some Vaseline or a good dip in some soapy water just in case
