OLD TIMERS.......... CHICKEN FARMERS ........WHAT IS THIS CONTRAPTION ANYWAY?

It looks homemade. My guess is that would be used to carry nails or such, much like one of those bags fron Lowe's or Home Depot you can tie around your waste today. Those compartments don't look big enough for tools, so I'd think probably more to keep nails or fittings organized yet mobile.

My first thought was something for a farrier (someone who shoes horses). They don't use many tools so they could build something pretty specialized to keep them organized, but those compartments don't look big enough for their knife, rasps, and hammer. It could be for general use or maybe someone specialized. I just don't know, but that was probably in an old chicken coop just because it was a good dry place to store it, not necessarily because it has anything to do with chickens.

Sounds about right. Definately not chicken related.

Yes, that was my thoughts too when i first seen it. The description reads its 14 x 14 inches so looks to be to hold nails and the such for maybe repairs. Interesting item though. Looks as if it had been used a lot too! I just thought it looked interesting. Might look pretty sitting on a fireplace mantel or a kitchen wall to hold trinkets and such!

It's an ultra space saving next box! 4 tiny little spots for bantams, 2 for 'normal' sized chickens, and 2 weird triangle shaped ones... well because there's always at least ONE that just can't be normal.

Kinda looks like a nail/hammer tote the hubby's grandpa used to carry around when doing fence/coop/house repairs.

There was one of these types of totes in my grandparents barn. The smaller divided section (4 smaller spaces) contained bottled of medicine/concoctions for the animals and the others were empty. I think my grandpa used it for veterinary supplies, etc

The use could vary from day to day. One day it might be medicinal products, the next materials for fence fixing, the next naijls and screws for carpentry projects - a pretty neat 'all purpose tote'.
