Older hens

I have a Light Sussex hen whom I inherited from a neighbour a few years ago. I couldn't say how old she was but from the look of her feet, she may be a grand dame
She finished a moult about 2 months ago and her combis once again bright red. I can't find any sneaky eggs anywhere but she looks like she should be laying. When chooks get to the "no more laying stage" of their lives do they continue to sport a red crown?

As an owner of many grand dames, I can assure you they do remain in good 'bloom.' I have a few over 8 years old.
