ole dog trying new trick

I made 2 different air baffles for 2 LGs using the illustration from junkmanme. I couldn't find a coffee can so I used a catfood can lid for the one that has a smaller computer fan.
I had another larger computer fan and I made a baffle for that one with the bottom of a cappuccino-mix can. They both work great and seem to hold the temps very steady in the LGs and no air directly blows on the eggs. Thanks for the idea !!

The "cappuccino-can" baffle will probably produce a better aroma for the baby chicks than the "cat-food can" baffle does.

Ha-Ha!

Haha I can agree with that. Cappuccino scented chicks yummy! I did wash them very well so unfortunately they can't smell anything

It is hard to get that catfood smell off though..had to bleach it.

THIS incubation with 3 similar, yet slightly different, incubators should provide us all with some "worthwhile" perspective on still-air vs circulating-fan type incubators.

I'm quite interested in how the hatch rates turn out and to what extend they vary. (Also am very interested in whether the chicks have an easier/harder time hatching in any of the incubators........)

Got home from work today and I had this message on the machine. stillair 33 hatched, fan up 22 hatched, fan down 17. All the rest of the eggs are rockin and pipin. Any of the eggs that are going to hatch should hatch tonight. If you get a chance drop by before Friday. Will give you an update tomorrw.

Looks like we will have a pretty good hacth rate from this run. Will have to do it a few more times to make sure this is right.

25 students took home 59 fuzzy butts today. 2 chicks are still in the brooder at the school. Mr. Lewis said he thought they may not make it. He didn't say why. He didn't say which bator they came out of. I will find that out next week when I go in to pick up the bators. Still not to shabby for a LG. About 81% if the 2 still at school don't make it.

That is a VERY GOOD "hatch-rate", John.

It renews my faith that my Little Giants will do well when I incubate in them in Early Spring.

(It is certainly TOO COLD right now for me to do any hatching.)

I will be watching to see if there was much difference between the 3 incubators that you used.

THANKS for the "update" !!!
