OMG!!! Duck born without eyes! ***UPDATE!! 11/01 with pics***

LOL. Stevie is so fat!!. It might just be the breed. My pekins are chunk too.

I've had blind animals before and they've always done fine. People don't realize how functional they can be. Animals don't just use their sight to get around.

If blind humans can live a normal life, then why not blind animals.

It was so amazing of you to raise Stevie. Despite all the pier pressure to do otherwise. I'd have done the same thing.

One of my Pekins has a twisted wing and a limp at times. She is the sweetest thing and has an amazing body type other than that.

I just read this entire thread, I have one word...AWESOME!! You and Stevie

Wow! I'm seriously impressed, not only with you but Stevie as well. This just about brought tears to my eyes! I'm very against culling unless pain or lack of proper mobility occur. But it still would've been a very hard decision so cheers to you! Very glad you followed your heart!

That is horrible and you obviously don't understand the miracle. She pulled through wonderfully! & she has companions and is doing well. There is much more to life than sight and although it is a wonderful gift it does not in any way mean she needs to be culled. Animals are very versatile and do a wonderful job compensating.

Way to go Steevie!!! And way to go for her mom that put in the extra effort and love that she needed!!

I am sorry to tell you this, but you really need to put this animal out of it's misery. A life without eyes is will be very hard on this little girl or guy. And for the person above a few, Humans and animals are different. I believe in animal welfare not animal rights. And the without eyes this animals welfare is not good.

Anyone who can say this obviously doesn't understand animals very well. You make it sound as though animals are just stupid and souless and unable to thrive if they are not perfect. Animals are often better at surviving than any human could be. Animals are People. they may not be human, but they have souls and lives that are valuable. To say that Stevie, or any blind animal, does not deserve life is to state your ignorance of the complexity and amazing copability of animals.

I value animals just as much as I value humans. They are my equals, not my servants or my subordinants. Animals are People and have Souls and feelings.

Animals are excellant at coping and have a better sense of the world than we do.

Ducks have extremely sensitive bills that they use to find their food. A duck without eyes can thrive and find food very easily. They learn to feel their way around their world just as humans do when blind. They learn where the feeder and waterers are and they are able to speak the duck language and be a part of duck society.

Stevie is a very valuable lesson to all of you who believe that animals cannot live and thrive if they are blind, or deaf, or have any disability for that matter.
