I would keep it !! I have too many roosters I've been told, but I'm not gonna kill something I've been feeding and spoiling. Good Luck !! He or she is surely a Lucky Duck !!

its been a few months so I have decided to give an update on Stevie......

Its getting to be winter and Stevie has adapted very well. Most visitors who do not know her dont even know that she is blind until they are told. She functions just like any other duck and I like to think she is happy. She is still living with her parents and they are all very attached to each other. They totally look out for her. They get supervised free range time daily with me watching and it is amazing how her mom will stick with her and quack to let her know where she is and what way to go to find the best forage. She is also a pro at finding her way aroung their large 30'x30' chainlink pen. I am careful to leave everything the same all the time and she hardly ever walks into anything anymore. She can even climb the steps into their kiddy pool to swim and get out again.

I have also started her on little forced marches

She is getting kind of fat from sitting around as she is obviously not quite as active as a regular duck. Its actually pretty funny, I will set her down and walk away and call "duck duck duck" and she will search for me. I just wait until she has found my feet and then we start over.

here are some pics from just this morning, overall I am really glad that I decided not to cull, she has made a fab pet and was a great learning experience. She is also my only just that will willingly come for human affection so pretty cool....

I'm glad to hear Stevie is doing so well. I have a Sizzle that is blind on one side and is actually missing her sinus on that side also. When she breaths hard it goes through her eye socket that is blind. She does well other than that. She lives in the house with us and has her own cage with a nest because she recently started laying. Of course I don't breed her to avoid passing this along to others. But she is the sweetest little hen. She loves to be cuddled and plays with the grandkids. They always go to oher cage to get her out to play.

I also had a quail hatch without an eye and it's beak was crooked. It's head was deformed but it got around just fine. I know the others would have killed it and since I raise them for food anyway, I culled it to avoid it being pecked to death. Saved it a horrible death.

I'm so glad you kept her! She is such a pretty duck.

Blindness/deafness isn't a reason for me to cull. I normally only do it for severe mobility problems or pain.
