OMG----DUCKLING BORN WITH NO EYES!!! CAN IT LIVE?? UPDATED PICS

The RESPONSIBLE thing to do would be to cull it..... obviously that point of view has some opposition, but then again, THEY aren't the duck and can't really understand what the quality of life would be like.

I had a frizzle , from shipped eggs hatch like that last week .Had no eyeball at all and no slit for the eye to go , first i had ever saw anything like it .

The other birds picked on him , so seperated him but he died 2 days later. It was sad

I thought atleast give him a chance though so i did .

Hey guys...just took some pics...will upload in a few minutes. It is drinking when you dip it's beak in the water and eating when you offer it crumbles. ~sigh~

Sparrow: I wish I was closer to you, I'd hand him over in a heartbeat.

Thanks for all your opinions, etc. I also believe that the common sense thing would be to just cull it and be done. I usually am pretty "hard" when it comes to that sort of thing. I don't know why I am having second thoughts on this one. Maybe it is because when it hears a noise, it turns it's head toward you and is acting "normal", plus those baby duckies are so darn cute. Pics in a few minutes.

Thanks!!

Leah

I concur.

It will probably not be able to find food or water and will not be able to do a lot. VERY predator prone and I doubt it will make it. But its entirley up to you bugladyleah, that is my opinion and is what I would do.

OMG!! Unreal!!! Such a difficult decision.I would say if it's not in pain, let it live but easy for me to say when I'm not the one caring for it 24/7.Good luck in whatever decision you make.I know it will be for the best either way.

Just a word of warning. Once ducklings reach a certain age, they quite often do not tolerate a litter mate that is not quite right and are relentless in their pursuit to kill it.

Okay, ...I don't have any ducks but could it actually live with chickens? I mean, I know that it would need different food and all but has anyone ever let 1 duck live with chickens? (I have a daughter who would probably just love this little duckling, but don't get excited, I can't commit without knowing how to take care of it)

I was told to cull my crooked beak sex link and she is a year now and doing great!!
