Yes it certainly is . I don't like the colour of that membrane either. To be honest I think that keeping it moist is the only option. Have you candled it to see if it is still moving ?

Well first calm Down it's ok these things happen can you show me a pic. And take the wash cloth off if it's not to bad there's other better ways.

I don't like the color either. Like something leaked out--not blood...not sure.

How should I keep it moist? The plastic wrap?

Other threads have warned that once they pip, they dry out like instantly!. So I'm worried about opening the bator a lot....

I have heard that but I'm afraid it's moot. I candled and saw no air cell anymore and no movement.

I have had eggs hatch perfectly fine with cracks worse than this, so there is still hope. (For mine they were under the mama who kept shuffling them, a little too roughly). And I would NOT recommend candle wax, as it will burn the chick. The most important thing right now is DON'T LET IT DRY OUT! ! ! you are fine with leaving it on a wet cloth. Double check that the cloth has not dried out every few hours. He still has almost a week to go so infection is still a threat.

Me personally I would NOT put anything on it get your humidity up and I would leave it alone. There's no signs of breakages as far as his membrane so he's still covered up. He'll hatch without a shell no biggy just makes it easier for him to get out. There's no blood or nothing so he is still in safe zone!
