omg, help me. My silkie has hoarded the ducks eggs

The baby inside will be really dark and they will start to move quite a bit about a week from hatching time. She may be closer though---that was when they start moving. I bet any day now

Get rid of the rotton ones and lighten her load.

heres what happened to one....

i saw one who had a "blood ring".... so my DH said to throw it over the fence bc it was most likely bad. i couldnt i had to crack it open. i wondered why the mother bird left the rest. i figured cause that one was rotten, YUCK, and maybe the others were too. the baby duck was moving! WHAT THE #$%#$% i thought a blood ring meant they died, or wouldnt hatch!!!
If i knew how to use the cry emoticon i would. darn it!!! Im so sad. Stupid DH, ill never listen to him again. The yolk was still in the egg, looked like it was never absorbed... I dont know what the heck its supposed to look like this is my first time!

Waaaahhh!!! Lord please forgive me for accidently killing one of your precious creatures.


Well, i was holding the other two eggs, and one moved. Thank God for that. But i couldnt crack them too. They are back in the incubator. I feel awful. I'll never do that again. Ill let them sit for months if i have to...

I've had eggs move up to 4 days before hatching.

hey that happens once in a while. no need to beat yourself up about it.

I was gone for a week once and the person taking care of my chicken wasn't collecting the eggs. When I came back I was throwing them all out. They were right next to a nest of eggs a duck was sitting on. One of the eggs I grabbed and threw was one of hers. It was a perfectly formed duck, but of course because of the impact it was dead. I was so mad at myself for my carelessness. It does happen.

I hope the others hatch for you, movement is a good thing. I'll keep my fingers crossed.

LMAO. I actually had a trio of Silkie hens sharing a nest, and tucked into it was about 10 Silkie eggs and 3 duck eggs. They did not give up, and soon there were little ducklings running around. I ended up putting one hen in a brooder with a duckling and she never gave up on it.

It was really funny. The little Silkie would be walking around and the duck would be right behind her.

So, I don't think you will have a problem with her leaving the eggs. Enjoy!

I did read the other post about the 5 toes. Yes, Silkies do have 5 toes.

ok so today... we lost the two hatched babies, that i had pics of. they were fine this morning, and now they are dead
