I am so excited! I received my BCM's today from Bayhorsebonne and they came from California to NC without one broken egg! They are so gorgeous and big! It is the first time I have seen them in person. Can't wait to put them in the bator. Question.....did I read they like lower humidity. I know I could research this, but I am so ready to get them in the bator. I can't beleive how many extras she sent me. YIPPPEEEEE! Anyone ready to set today besides me?

I'm setting Saturday I hope! I'm getting my BCM eggs this weekend!

And hopefully, if the girls cooperate, I'll be picking up some serama eggs to put in there with them!

Just so you know, and I'm sure you do. If you received these eggs in the mail today, I wouldn't set them until tomorrow morning. They need a little bit of time to relax and settle (the air cells).

The common wisdom is that dark BCM eggs do prefer lower humidity. I have never hatched BCM eggs myself, so I can't say from experience.

Another trick I have heard of is to take sandpaper and gently sand a small spot through the dark pigment layer, over the air cell. Supposedly, this will increase oxygen exchange and improve the hatch. Again, I've never tried it myself.

Good luck with your hatch! Bayhorsebonne has a good reputation with the BCMs.

I started to buy from her off ebay once but then I bought a batch of eggs and live chicks from 2 different members here on BYC.

She had really dark looking eggs if I remember correctly with nice looking parent birds.

So glad you are happy - I love my marans. I have lost some along the way and didn't have a very great outcome with the hatching eggs either but the 4 I do have now are awesome. My little roo, Copper, follows me around everywhere and even stands at the door pecking!

Thanks Chicky Tocks! Yes I did know to let them settle a spell. After such a long trip they are resting in an egg carton looking out my dining room window. So glad you are getting BCM's too. Can we set together?

Have you hatched BCM's before?
