Your comment that he wouldn't let you call the police bothers me immensely. The only reason I can think of that he wouldn't want to notify the police is if he is engaged in illegal activity (and that could be the reason for the attempted break-in).

Call them NOW; if he is involved with anything illegal, you do NOT want to become an accessory after the fact.

My husband is one of those that wouldn't call the police either, unless there was actual damage to the house or entry was made. He would react the same way ~ grab a gun and go outside.

Glad your alright! Thats scary. I remb when I was around 4 or 5 we had someone shoot through one of our windows because my dad had called the cops on him. Good thing our refrigerator took the bullet or who knows what would of happened. I really think you should call the cops. Maybe they could get finger prints off your doorknob?

maybe it was a raccoon? my cat scared us to death one night ripping the screen off the open living room window to get inside... i dont know, you could always tell yourself that so you can sleep better at night?

What if your husband doesn't find the man and the individual goes down the street and kills some kid or their parents? Picking up the phone and calling the police is very easy and you might save a life by doing so.

When my sister was 13 there was an older boy that was stalking her. We had no idea that he was obsessed with her.

He tried to break in even though we had dogs that were barking like mad and turned on all the lights. We called the police and the boy hid in our garden. The police caught him and he just really wanted to get to my sister.

Some people are just crazy, mixed up or just plain bad.

Whether your DH says to or not....
Maybe after day break when you go to work or go to the gas station or grocery store or something, you could take your cell phone with you and call the police.
I don't know about that bit right there, but I would call.
