Omg The Unexpected Egg It Has Hatched

Oh yes, s/he was just out for a quick photo shoot. Sylvia is a devoted momma. If she wasn't though, we do have a set up we raised our other pullets in.

Congrats on the new chickie! I understand your feelings very well - there's something about hatching chicks that makes you want to shout it from the housetops! I had 4 heroically determined hens hatch some shipped eggs last week, and I was so delighted, I just couldn't stop smiling!

You asked about the eggtooth - it's there, you can see it on the very tip of the chick's beak. It's a tiny thing, really, and can be a bit hard to spot on light colored beaks. It'll drop off in a few days.

Enjoy watching your hen be a mom. I have seen some of the cutest and sweetest things with my girls and their babies!

oh, no- as Alan says, we're not taking Doodle away from his mom.

we noticed something interesting as he dried off (maybe two or three inches of fluff- bantam chicks are so teensy- his feet are very dark, almost back. Pasquale's feet are spotted white and black, Sylvia's are yellow... wonder what's going on there...

Glad to hear he's staying with his mom. It sounded like you had put him in with older chicks in your OP. Glad to hear all is going well and keep up the good work!!!

Congratulations! How Fun!! I love the mutt birds because it's so much fun waiting for them to feather out and see what they'll grow to look like. Looks like your little Doodle has a huge grab bag of ancestry. Keep us posted with pics as he/she feathers out. Never hesitate to gush and gab here!!
