Okay, now that is just too cool.

I've tried to candle my eggs a couple of times now and couldn't see enough to know what I was looking at, so today I dropped $4 on a pocket sized LED flashlight and candled again. What a difference a real light makes. Tonight I could see real veining and movement in 7 of my 12 eggs. MOVEMENT!! as in LIVE CHICKS!!

I am so stoked, I was sure I'd completely botched things and somehow ruined them all. I have got to show the kids tomorrow night, they will be as thrilled as I am.

Today is day 14, so now I just have to be sure not to mess things up as we get closer to hatch day. I'll probably candle once more as I get set to stop turning them and toss the ones that still look bad (unless they start to smell sooner

Thank you everyone for your wealth of knowledge. I wouldn't have even attempted this if I couldn't come here for advice and support. Y'all are the best.

I just saw movement too! My first batch ever in a used Sportsman I bought last week. Lots of my eggs are dark so I cant see much but in the lighter ones I see swimming! How cool is that! Im so eggcited

Where did you find an LED light for $4? The cheapest one I can find (for a small size) is $20.

I found that day 14 was the coolest! My husband saw it's eyeball or something. It was so cool and kinda creepy in a way, to see them in there! Good luck on your hatch!

I found it at my local True Value Hardware store. The name on the side of it says Miraclebeam and it is seriously bright. The one I got seems to be slightly defective, so I'm going to exchange it today for another one.

omg... last night was day 9 for my bunch and i just could not believe it..i candled after many failed atempts...and out of 47 eggs i have 47 babies..i am so excited...i seen movement in some, heartbeats in others...i am so excited....cant wait until june 7...hatch date.....thank you all so much for your awesome knowledge base.....

Because of this site, I figured out how to candle too! Silly me, trying to hold an egg up to a bright, bright lightbulb before! One way to get blinded! lol.

I saw veining last night on day 6 of 13/43 of my eggs! Some are dark shelled, and over 1/2 shipped eggs, one with broken eggs, so I'm happy!!

I'm still hoping for a Welsummer, though...

So very cool! I have to make sure I don't sit there and candle all the time, because it looks to neat!

Now that I know how to do it, next year when I hatch in my classroom, we'll have to candle the eggs on day 14-16!! The kids will be in awe...like their teacher!
