OMG! they're peeping in the Eggs! UPDATE!

Quote:
You need to wait till the chick is dry........ and in that tiny bator if you open it you might mess up the rest of the hatching - do you have one of those DOME bators?

Yes, it's one of those dome bators...she is just flipping around all over it smacking the other 2 eggs around, is this ok????

Help anyone....based on my previous question, can I take her out and put her under a brooder light to dry? The dome incubator is really humid now since her hatch and she is bouncing the other two eggs around!

Well I decided to take matters into my own hands and I removed the first hatch into the heated brooder because she was not going to settle down before drying and was playing cue ball on the other two eggs but the good news is she* (*we hope) is doing great! She is just about dry and peeping up a storm! She is already pecking at my wedding band! And since these were mystery eggs we've discover this first one has feathered feet! Brahma? some sort of Banty? She is mostly yellow. I'll post pic a little later. We still have two to go. The third hasn't made any effort yet.

P.S. How long do I wait before placing water & feed into the brooder?
My only experience so far is with shipped chick.

Lori, I'm sorry that nobody replied to your pleas for help. I wish I could have helped out. I'm very glad that your chick is doing well and that your gut instinct served you well. Good luck with the rest of the hatch!

Good morning all,

Well it has been a long night, the second chick finally made it into the world with the intervene instructions on BYC from fowlweatherfriends.
I found they're instructions on intervention when I finally was convinced there was trouble ahead. After 12 hrs since the first (and only) pip, which was at 10:30 am yesterday, I started intervening by chipping away at the shell in a zipping manner then waited another 4 hrs until about 1:30 am this morning. The membrane was very thick so I was able to successfully make a tear in that (no blood) to expose the chick and boy was she/he/it a tangled mess! I waited again for another hr then help split the shell apart a bit and the chick finally did the rest!
It was too big for it's shell but still a little guy! The new one is doing fine as well, already pecking & wiping it's beak on the paper towel, still trying to get it's coordination in walking though. 2 down 1 to go then we start all over again with the second batch due Sunday

Geez... and I though giving birth to my twins was tough!

P.S. Susan, Thanks for your moral support!

Glad it's going well. Looks like you've got a busy week ahead. Your boys will have fun this weekend with the new chicks to watch.

Lori, I just read this and sorry no one came along to help too. I wish I could help but it sounds like you have it all under control. Congrats on your new babes. Love to see pics when you catch a breather
