On Bumping Your Own Posts...within Minutes

On days when I'm bored, I go to the last page of "Recent Posts" and review whether there are threads of merit to many people that have only one or two replies. I discreetly "bump" them sending them up to the top of the first page by saying "I don't know the answer to this but maybe some quail experts/blue feather experts/breeder, etc. knows the answer".

I've noticed that this can revive a thread that has merit and is educational.

Some days I do a search on threads that have been bumped by Buff Hooligans and bump the thread that she already bumped while in search for things to bump. I feel this gives me power over my universe.

At another forum I worked as an emergency moderator, we had a rule against chatty talk on emergency threads. We found that the OP would get caught up in the banter and may or may not pay close attention to the moderator post, and therefore kept asking the same thing over and over, or missed crucial information about treatment.

Personally, I enjoyed the Thread Killers Anonymous thread when I was a newbie here... gave me somewhere to go when my posts or threads were dying on the vine...perhaps we should link them up. LOL!

For many people I suspect that this is their first experience with an online community, and they don't exactly understand how things work. Usually they cut it out pretty quickly (I'm sure after hearing from a moderator). Not to say I don't find it irritating, as I find it akin to whining.

I often times don't/won't post a reply if I know the answer could have been found very easily by using the search feature. I know some people would consider this mean I suppose, but I figure if they can't take the time to do a search why should I take the time to answer them.

You posted you miss alot of posts due to the fast pace of things. That is the reason people may want to bump it to the top, so if someone missed the post they may see it after the bump.

The search button to me was very hard to use when I first started...I didn't know it was here at first so when I asked a simple question I was informed to go to the search option...I did, but I was there for about two hours to find something that happened to help me a little. Ended up asking again and in 2 min someone was nice enough to help me out and it took 2 min of their time. I know it's irritating to go on and take a few min to help even though it may be in search but sometimes you get a lot of "chat" to look/read through to get your answer. And for a newbie that could be enough to chase them away from the site. What I figure is I spend hours on this site anyhow I may as well take a few min to answer a question if I know it even tho it may be easy to find on search. Just a nice gesture for the newer ones here IMO. I DO understand your points though
