Regarding search:

The search tools on BYC are very powerful and anything can be found if you know how to use them. Unfortunately learning how to be a search master takes a lot of practice. With that said, I'd encourage everyone to spend time to hone their search skills. In this digital age, the ability to effectively search is becoming more and more important.

A few things can be done to make the information on BYC more readily accessible:

1) Members should put very detailed information in their subject lines
2) We need more help building out our FAQ sections and the Learning Center on BYC (using the BYC Page Creation Tool )

I almost panicked yesterday and ask for help, but I did search all the related topics, and decided that a few of them were holding their wings out, because they were probably hot. So, I misted their coop and cooled it off and they quit.

But, had I posted because I was panicked, I would have surely appreciated a reponse.

I just wish I knew enough to help some of them out. But, I'll learn as time goes by.

But, I have never bumped or reposted, I just take the help I get and I am satisfied.

All of our forum members should always be friendly and respectful, and the vast majority are (we all get in bad moods from time to time).

We encourage people to get the info they need in whichever way is most effective for them. Either via the website, forum, search, posting new threads, posting on old threads, etc.

"Bumping" can be a pretty grey area and there are a lot of factors involved. There is a huge difference between:

Situation 1: A member posts in "Buy Sell Trade" that they have a rooster for sale. 20 minutes later they reply to their own thread with "BUMP!!!!"

Situation 2: A member posts in the "Emergencies / Diseases / Injuries and Cures" section with a very descriptive title and as much information as they have on hand. During the next hour they find more insights from searching the forum and have some info about their situation. Their thread has no replies and so they post a reply to their thread with the additional insights and information to get feedback.

The BYC Staff don't love to be "Bump Police" but we will step in and remove bumps and even send warnings to members when the bumps are excessive and don't provide any value.

I like this attitude and it's the reason I keep coming back to BYC.

today I will ignore those questions and let them wonder

Glad everyone doesn't have this attitude.

First, I only take that attitude on days that end in Y.

If your gonna quote, maybe learn how to quote, giving the original person credit for saying such nice thing, or not so nice things.

go to post you want to quote from and hit the quote button in the bottom right corner, that will automatically open a Message window where you can take out the parts you dont want people to read. Such as the part that I already answered the same questions 3 time in the last 24 hours.

Ditto! I cant follow/help them when they have 2-3 differant threads going on about the same thing...

You could also go into Profile, click on display and change the number of topics you see on a page. I think the default is 12, but you can choose up to 75 to see on one page. I love this feature!!!!

I like seeing a huge variety of posts to read and it takes a while for one to work it's way down

Shouldn't you use the SEARCH feature first, that is why 1/2 of the questions go unanswered, how many times do I need to let people know what temperature thier brooder should be, and is it OK to turn off the light on a day when its 95 degrees out? 3 times yesterday because I was in a good mood, today I will ignore those questions and let them wonder.
