(Hi! to Jen's parents

Watching a Naked Neck chick hatch is such a cool/freaky/weird thing --- Hubby says thay look like dinosaurs when they first hatch, lol.

Was the yellow from a 'S' egg or a 'F' egg? It could be a white Silkie or a Frizzle chick {Ashley hatched a lemon-yellow chick from the Frizzle pen (lemon blue w/barring gene Cochin roo over blue and black hens)
It's getting the prettiest barring.}.

Any more out yet?

Good luck!

OK guys, here's the report. I didn't sleep much at all last night. The chicks are in the room next to mine, could hear them peeping etc.

I hatched a Yellow Gold that was marked Frizzle at 9:00 pm last night, it's doing wonderful and in the nursery brooder, eating and playing. It's getting little black marks on head, so cute!

Hatched a Yellow/white Silkie with black skin at 10:00 pm, doing wonderful.

At 10:30pm hatched a black naked neck with red skin, it's awesome and wierd, does look like a dinasaur, had to help it out!

5:35 am Hatched a Grey/black Nacked neck with black skin IT HAS SPRADDLE LEG BAD, got to FIGURE THIS OUT!! In the nursery now with others. Can't drink or stand.

Hatched a Grey/black frizzle, at 6:45 pm tonight, still in incubator absorbing a little yoke still, had pipped last night got membrane stuck all over it, I decided to help, it's walking around doing ok so far.

Just hatched a black/grey Frizzle at 7:30, little yolk bubble left but doing fine so far!

Got three cracked and pipping with one that's trying to struggling getting zipped like the last two.

So out of 15 eggs, got 5 hatched, two hatching.........my mom, dad, and grown kids have been so excited and a part of this process. I'll keep you updated....got to go check on how to fix spraddle leg and see if I can save that little guy!

I had the help the other three out of their shells, they were stuck, it's like the membrane dried out and kept them glued in. I left the shells on their bottom so they could finish absorbing the yolk until this morning. I left one that was standing and doing ok, one that was very weak, and one died.

The spraddle leg silkie got his legs taped together last night but he's still not standing on them (this is bothering me more than the one that died) I can't stand seeing it with it's face on the ground while the others are playing around.

So, let's see I have 6 in the temporary brooder, 2 drying off in the bator, 1 died, and 6 eggs left. Out of those 6 eggs, one has a little crack but not peeping, one has weird wet looking spots forming in the shell, and the other three have no cracks no peeping.

This is nerve wracking, my hubby says he likes the broody hen method better. I have little peices of egg shell everywhere a trashcan with bloody looking shell pieces, he said it's a lot cleaner when the hen's do it......I'm like yeah, but I had to try it!

I can't stand not being there for two little ones in the bator, hope I didnt' help too soon, I don't think I did but I'll never really know. It will be interesting to see what I come home to today.

Hope they're all doing well, Jenichick! How's the little spraddle-leg doing? Hope well! Congrats on your first hatch!

Hi Jen,
Congratulations on the hatchlings!
Good that you caught the chicks before they perished stuck in their shells.

I hope you don't mind me saying, but you likely messed up your hatch by opening the bator and removing chicks.
That's why it's recommended you don't open the bator til the hatch is complete.

Next time, leave the bator closed and let them hatch without intervention.

I don't mind you saying.....I learned so much throughout this process.

I opened it because I had one that had pipped and not zipped for over 24 hours and it was getting weaker and weaker, so I started by helping that one. I think that did affect the others and it was a domino effect. I have 5 eggs that never pipped or cracked, I think three have dead embryos at different stages and two infertile.

So I hatched 8 out of 13 fertile. I'm ok with that for first try, would like to have not lost any though.

Thanks everyone for their help! It's been an adventure for sure!
