On my way to getting chickens.

Hello and welcome to BYC! :frow Glad you joined.
I wouldn't wait once the coop and run are ready. I'd brood the chicks in the coop using a brooder plate and enjoy them while they mature during winter and start proving you eggs in the spring.
The property is too far from our current house to make it practical for me to do that. I was only able to get my husband on board by promising to wait until the year we plan to move in. I’ve waited this long, a little while more won’t kill me. 🙂

:welcome:woot:woot:celebrate:yesss:Hello and welcome to BYC, You found an Awesome poultry Forum to be a part of with many great knowledgeable members who are more then willing to jump in and help you with any questions you may have. :)
I can see that - I’m excited to be here!

Husbands were made to suffer, they have selective hearing though, so don't feel bad.
He’s a good guy, and mostly just laughs when I tell him the latest thing I learn. I know once we have them, he will love them, too.

Hello, and welcome to BYC. Set your goals, plan and prepare and you will be successful in establishing your flock. Hot wire is a great mammalian deterrent, and a properly covered run/pen will protect against aerial predators. Go easy on your husband. In spite of our selective hearing we are still sensitive beings. :lau
Oh, I’m mostly kidding about him. He was actually telling me today about some thoughts he had for building the run, so he’s getting on board. And definitely, I want a secure place for them!
