On oprah right now , how our meat is raised

OHChick.....hi..and you are 100% right!..and it is so hard....i do feel for the farmers...its literally their livleyhood....i wonder if the goverment gave them support,,(money), would it change the way that some of these farms are run?..as in, would they we able to give these animals better care....and more living space?...maybe the government should help them out more?...i dont know what is needed..

..i just wish their was an easy answer to this problem...its really sad to me. take care, Wendy

for too many its about cost. for example i try to sell my eggs at work and one guy goes "$2.50/doz ! but i can get a dozen for 97c at the grocery". i tried to explain the difference....nicely. but really, there are some people who just will never get it.

You've got that right! That's something I've struggled with in our rural area... a lot of people still aren't willing to pay for animal products raised humanely and naturally. I had some friends who bought pork from us who got upset and decided that we overcharged them by $.15/lb, which amounted to them spending about $15 more on a half a hog (they compared us to a much larger farrow to finish operation which is big enough to have feed ground in bulk, which provides a large savings - we only had space for 1000lb at a time with a grinding fee of $12 no matter how much feed you were having ground). But to be honest, they got their pork for less than they would have paid in the store and got a much higher quality product! Some people just won't ever get it. I've dealt with the same thing as you with the eggs, too. It's frustrating!

It sounds dumb, but I gave some eggs to my mama's neighbor and she laughed at how tiny they were. Then went to my mom to tell her how much better they tasted then the store eggs she gets!!! My mom told her I free ranged them and they had all around better conditions then those chickens. Now the lady looks for the 'better' egg at the store. She never even KNEW there was a difference until she 'experienced' it!

People are afraid of, and question, what they do not understand or already know!

Pepsi and Coke do blind taste tests... and people give away free samples in stores all the time...why because it MAKES people taste the difference.

Someone who buys cheap eggs, won't question costs if they get to enjoy the better egg. Same as meats. Just ask Whole Foods.

i know i taste the differance in the eggs...mine finally started to lay..and i'm loving it!..

mmm.... good food.

You know, people could really afford to eat better if they just stayed out of the center aisles at the grocery store. My goodness, do we really need to buy 3 bags of lays potato chips for $2.49 a bag? (Though I do have cravings!)
