My chickies have free run of the yard every afternoon once the kids and I are home. While they CAN go where they choose they NEVER go around front. So, I am sitting in the living room this afternoon and hear a very loud crowing from the front. I check to make sure my phone isn't ringing (my ring is a video clip of my baby crowing) and it isn't. Checked to make sure the kids weren't playing some strange video game that decided to crow....nothing. So I open the front door.......my beautiful roo Hansel and three of his ladies, Lola, Raven, and sophie, were staring at me. *sigh* I already spend a lot of time cleaning poo from the back deck. I guess they found a fund new place to soil.

I kept my brooder on the porch up until just earlier this week. I would keep the chicks inside at night and let them run amok during the day. Eventually, instead of just taking them out into the yard, we would just let them "fly" off the porch into the little garden next to the house.
Big mistake. They found that staying right next to the porch gets them more time in the sun.

So there was poop on the porch, steps, walkways, etc. I try to keep them run off the porch now and in a little (movable) pen that I made for them. The brooder also goes in there. I still let them out, but only for a little while when I can watch them.... If they get on the porch, they get wet.

Yeah, my geese and ducks like to gather right outside my front door. Sometimes they sneak onto my back patio to hang out. It turns the smooth cement into a slip n slide. Gaaaah.

I am glad to hear I am not the only one with "porch dwellers". LOL I am trying to convince myself it is because they love me so much!!!!
