I don't have a count of my chickens in my signature line for a few reasons:

1. The # is always changing and I am bad at "administration" updates.
2. Listing them out is like admitting I have a problem.
3. Publicly declaring the number gives the DH the ability (and good reason) to put his foot down.

Also--I am not really sure how many I have...I know all the adults, but think of them in groups of 3 fluffly butts or 4 kinda ugly-but-nice chickens, not 15 chickens total. I don't even count the chicks.

What about you?

I chose by groups. I used to drive myself crazy trying to count them until I had an aha! moment.
I have 5 buff brahmas, 5 dark brahmas and 4 light brahmas. Much easier.

All bets are off once the new chicks arrive.

I would NEVER say the total number aloud to DH, that would be detrimental to our relationship for sure. In fact he has said "I don't want to know how many she has, I'm just the coop builder."

I totally agree that writing, or even speaking the number would be admitting I have a problem

. But I definitely don't have a problem

By groups when I need to do a quick head count to make sure everyone is present and accounted for. I know I have 4 barred birds, 2 red birds, etc.

Now as far as chicken math, that's a whole different story! I recently sold 5 roosters, so I can clearly hatch 2 dozen eggs this spring and still have the same amount of chickens...

sounds like good accouting to me!

I count by heads. Plus a lot of our chickens are different breeds and colors so it is easy to count.
