One chick has died... two more are sick... please need help

All but one are drinking and eating. I'm not giving them anymore injection.... I'm not sure about the little one. She won't drink the od is taking it's toll on her. I feel so bad about this!

Don't panic, do you have a way to weigh them? I use a digital kitchen scale to weigh mine. If you don't have a scale, can you take a picture of one next to something like a soup can? Then I can try to make a guess as to how much it weighs and help you come up with a dosing plan.

The little one actually drank some water, eat a bit of food and pooped! I'm in tears... I thought for sure there was no hope for her. The others are chirping and running around. So you think I should still continue the meds even after od them? I'm not sure the little one could take much more.

Thanks casportpony, no we don't have a scale. I'll see if walmart carries them and weigh her. If not I'll post a pick. Again,Thanks... I'll try not to panic.

SHE DRANK WATER AND ATE SOME FOOD!! AND POOPED!! I never thought I would be so happy to see a chick poop!

Ok our smallest one weighs 3.2 oz

Glad to hear they are better... I would probably keep giving the Tylan, just a lot less of it. If people here say that a chick should get 0.10 cc, then cut back to 0.025 cc, that should be safe.

OK, I normally gave the meds to them in the morning, I was thinking perhaps I should give them a little more time to gain their strength so I'm thinking about giving their injections in the evening... how does that sound? What do you think?

That would probably be fine.

I went out and bought Tylan 50, found it at a TS about 30 miles from here. So, I'm gonna start them on it again this evening. All, but the littlest one, seems to be back to normal. The littlest one is drinking/eating/ pooping, but still sleeps much more than the rest... I'm so worried about giving her more... I'm hoping she'll perk up a bit. My dd just came in and told me the littlest one is walking around, pecking, scratching, and she even started clean her feathers... I think by this evening she might be ready for her injection.

I hope they all continue to get better.

Okay, so 3.2 ounces is pretty close to 100 grams. Thinking out load here... since the recommended dose is 10-40mg/kg, and 100 grams is 1/10 of a kg, your chick would get between 1-4mg up to three times a day. Make sense?

0.10 ml is 5mg (Tylan 50), so I say it's close enough. Since most people here on BYC do it only once a day, I'd probably stick with that plan, but it's up to you. Maybe someday I'll try an experiment with it, lol. (evil laugh, see avatar)

If I have done the math incorrectly, please, please do let me know!
