One chick with very slow growth?

I had a chicken that was slow to grow. He was a rumpless rooster. I lost him to some thing in the yard at one time. He was the same size of the chicks that I had hatch 4 week after him yet he was 6 weeks older than them.

She is with a RIR. SLW, Wynsumer all are much bigger except the last one. She is a sweet one and will sit in my lap and eat treats!. The special attention has helped her. I thought I had a chick with a bad leg and was not sure she would survive. My husband is amused by my antics with these chick. I am an animal lover and will go to extremes to make a sick or ailing one better. She will be a well fed girl and showered with love.

I would not trust any of them with her.

She has a condo of her very own for now until she gets some size and fully recovered. It may be lonely but at least it is safe. What breed would be a good roommate for her? I was going to order more like her but it would be June before they ship. I really do not want more than the 4 I have but I do not want her to be a target either.

I know Cochin and Silkie are very docile. Those are the only breeds I've had personal experience with. Check your local feed stores and TSC. They may have some feather footed bantams that would be docile. Unfortunately they don't come sexed

I have a chick like this too. She seems to be growing now. She is still smaller though.

this is what I am doing based on suggestions from people here: 1) feeding mash three times a day. I make the mash by mixing the starter feed with a little warm water to make a thick paste. 2) I've been feeding a freshly boiled, mashed hard boiled egg every other day. I feed it instead of the mash for one meal. I put the mash or egg in a lid. I feed it to all my chicks.

Another thing I did was buy a replacement chick of the same age incase she didn't make it. (I only had four chicks). This shook up the pecking order a little and added another brown chicken, so she didn't stand out so much. She was the only brown one, the others were black. Also, prayer can help if you are so inclined.

Itty Bitty is GROWING! She has big feet and long legs! Yea! Body has increased in size - she is still separated from the others and enjoys the special attention. They are 3 weeks old today.
