One chicken laying

Need some feedback please! Bought 5 chicks back in February and got 2 rainbow layers, 1 black sex link, 1 barred rock and a red comet. It seems that only the black sex link is laying and has been laying for 3-4 weeks now. The others aren’t laying and I keep them cooped up until bout 3:30 pm everyday to hopefully prevent them from laying in the yard somewhere. When can I expect the others to follow and start laying?? Thanks!

I don't have an answer since none of mine are laying either. I'm just curious on how everyone seems to know which egg is from which chicken. Is there something about the color of egg or something else that indicates this?

I don't have an answer either. But you can know which egg is from which chicken from the exact color, shape, and size. Or you at least know that the egg is, in fact, from a chicken, until you see a chicken laying that egg. One sighting at a time, you eventually know exactly who laid that egg.

I actually had checked that morning didn’t have an egg then went back later on and she was in the box so I waited for her to come down and went and looked and the egg was there so that’s how I pinpointed which chicken was laying but still unsure why the others have not since I got all 5 at the same time.

They're all different breeds and even then they're all individuals. Expecting them to all start laying at the same age is like expecting all kids to hit puberty at the same time.

Okay thanks. I will try to continue to patiently wait for the others to start but I hope it’s soon because I have a big family to feed for breakfast!!

I have 6 and they all started laying at different times. My Welsummer took FOREVER to start laying...even after the Silkies. I believe my Black sexlink was the first to lay.

It will happen in due time.

Mine are all different breeds (except I have two silkies) so I know who lays what. For the silkies each has a slightly different shape and shade of off-white which I figured out by paying attention to who was in the box.

Mine will lay in the nesting boxes no matter where they are. Even if I let them out to be free range while I am home they go to the nesting boxes to lay.
