One eye closed, lethargic

Usually, it needs to be done with a necropsy after death when they can do histology on feather shafts and test any tumor tissue. There are labs around the world that may test a feather shaft for a fee. Those may have some false negative results. If you lose her, I would get a necropsy by a poultry vet in your area, usually best if done at a vet school or by a poultry specialist. I would contact the two places below ahead of time to ask ablot Mareks testing, find out costs, and how to send a body for necropsy:

Thank you very much for your help. I will send her out for necropsy if she doesn’t recover. I am still hoping it is wry neck from trauma.. my beilefelders are the only ones that use the roosts at night the legbars, ameraucanas, hedemora and Brahma sleep in a pile under the nesting boxes, I think they may have squashed her. I have started using my Assisi loop on her (non pharmaceutical anti inflammatory device) hoping it will help with any pain or inflammation. I will continue to update.

Today she wasn’t eating on her own so I syringe fed her, she had a fever at noon with panting, ive also noticed her head moves back and forth rapidly like nystagmus. Tonight when I picked her up out of the cage for a feeding she had a seizure. In general she seems to have more energy and her comb is starting to turn pinkish again rather than yellow tinged.

Ok I will try to get a video. It is not exactly like that my girl it is her head that does that and it seems to be a precursor to a seizure. I found a treatment plan here http://www.browneggblueegg.com/Article/Crookneck/Crookneck.html
That I have been following with the one exception being the prednisone, because her skin is tinged yellow I am worried about her liver and therefore not comfortable with giving her prednisone, I am hoping the Assisi loop will help with inflammation but if no improvement in a few days I will consider an NSAID. The two other legbars have been very good to her they pretty much ignore her but I know they miss their big coop so I am moving them back there tonight since it looks like she will need to be inside for a few weeks maybe the whole winter.

Prednisone should not be given without a vet. The guy that wrote that article is not a vet, but many follow his recommendations for vitamin E. The selenium he recommends is too high and not necessary, since it is found in cooked egg, tuna, and sunflower seeds. For wry neck thiamine (B1) is also good to give and that is in many chick vitamins. Too much selenium is not good, just a little is needed by the body. Amoxicillin dosage can be given 57 mg per pound twice a day, so 250 mg twice a day is fine for a 5 pound chicken. I hope that it helps.

Yes, thank you! I work at a vet clinic and she will be coming to work with me everyday so she will definitely see a vet lol but to be honest the folks on here are more experienced with chickens than my vets we usually only see them for euthanasia most ppl self treat. Anyways tried the YouTube thing hope it worked!

It is hard to watch when they have seizure-like activity, but glad that you were able to capture the twitching neck movements on video. Do both of her eyes appear normal color with round and equal pupils? One form of Mareks disease can cause a grey eye or an irregular or pinpoint pupil. Glad that you are bringing her to work with you. You may try to find out where to get a necropsy and testing through a poultry lab in your area, in case she doesn’t make it. Since it can happen unexpectedly, it is good to know how to go about it, costs, etc. A basic necropsy may not cost much, but they may want to get a Mareks test or other histology done.

Her left eye is still closed and she fights me when I try to open it so I just leave it alone but I will try and check again. Her right eye seems normal, I did look for opaque areas but could find none. Yes I will definitely send her out if she doesn’t make it. Both groups came from awesome breeders and they are the first chickens I’ve had so risk factors are low but if she has a disease it is important to know.

I believe the closest is Guelph (one of the ones you had recommended) we have sent necropsies there before for dogs and cats.
