We purchased 4 - 3 day old baby chicks two months ago. 2 Silkies, 1 RIR LF and 1 BLR Wyandotte Bantam. 3 out 4 get along great but our BLR is something else. I picked her/him because when at the feed store (it was super cold in there) I put my hand into the cage and the BLR jumped right into my hand. I tried putting it down 3 x's because I was reaching for another breed but she/he just kept jumping back in I'm guessing for warmth. I assumed she was super friendly to do that so I decided on her instead. She was fine for the first month but now she is just rotten! We've had to separate her for this past month. She resides confined in the same area as the others except on the other side of a wire mesh by herself. We tried to knock her down in the pecking order so she wasn't so rotten by secluding her. We have been mainstreaming her the last 3 weeks. She is allowed with the others while being supervised 4 x's a day. We've been allowing her to sleep with the others at night for the past week but only because I'm a very light sleeper and can here them. She will peck at the others and pull feathers. She is now going after eyeballs. She is the smallest so she constantly does sneaks attacks on the others. She is always starting stuff. The others are just happy chickens and she is just plain rotten!!! Hubby keeps saying we are gonna have to get rid of her and then in the next breath she is fine and eating right along with them!? Is she a rooster? Is she just plain weird of the standard? They are still inside because last night was 37 here and they are cold at 60 so we put up with them being inside. They are in a trampoline box that's about 10 sq feet but is that not big enough for their stimulation at their age? We take them out once a day for about an hour or so in a fenced yard outback. They are on sand in their box and have a big bowl of dirt for dust bathing. They have a screen over the box so they have plenty of ventilation and just today (for the third time so far) I did completely remove all the sand and add a new batch for safety purposes of smell and what not. We feed them a soft version of their food once or twice a day which is a loved treat for them. We try holding her once a day but she is so frantic and breaths so heavy we don't want to give her a heart attack.... yet she'll eat out of our hands? She is so freakishly annoying, cute and weird all at the same time! Am I doing something wrong or is she just plain rotten??? She is one of my babies so I would like to keep her but I don't want her secluded from the others so if we have to give away to be happy we will. Thanks for all your help!
