One of my cage models I have built

Make some cages?

The pallets I have been using are huge 4x8,4x10 and some as large as 8x8. Some will have 2 good sheets of OSB, 5/8 or 3/4 in plywood and people just toss them out in a pile that they give away for firewood. This old boy isn't to proud to use them. The small pallets are a pain. they use screw nails and it is almost impossible to get them apart without damaging beyond use. I just take a circular saw and cut the boards off as close as I can get to the 2x's. Be careful as I hit a nail once and it all the way through my arm at an angle and came out my elbow. Can you imagine what would of happened if it had hit me in the eye? Anyways those small boards are good to use as siding on the coop or shingles for the roof.

nice cage!!! have been thinking about building one, thought about having the roll out feature, however I'm thinking rats, mice, are going to crawl in there at night and steal the food...

If a mouse can get it's head through an opening, the body can too. They can get through a 1/2 x 1 wire.

The hinged lid is a great idea! And would keep some of the bigger critters out!

ok just popped into my head while i was reading this... for those who are paranoid of predators etc...

how about putting in the slope, egg catcher etc just like he showed it, and boxing (or wiring) in the end with a lift door on top so you can just pick the eggs out when you want to?

kinda like this...

btw, i really like the design idea. i may have to do something similar when i'm ready to add quail to my flock.
