One of my chicks is deformed

Awww. Sweet chickie. He's a fighter--I'd give him a chance. He'll never be purty, but purty ain't everything.

He looks like a spunky little guy or doll! I would try anything (some type of mash or wetted down feed to stick to his beak) to give him/her a chance. Can he open his beak?

So just wet some of the start & grow? I can do that;) He opens his beak... even used it to nip at a would be bully in the brooder. I hope he does well. I shouldn't be attached to him, but some chicks/chickens just make more of an impression on you than others. You can just see the intelligence in some chicks versus others.

I would give him a chance...make sure he has a deep dish for his food so that he can scoop it up. Give him some scrambled egg by hand to give him a little extra beefing up and maybe some vitamins and minerals in the water. what a cutie.

About 30 years ago, or a little more, Tom T. Hall wrote and sang a song about a "one-legged chicken that had hatched in his barn in Brentwood, Tennessee. It's on one of his Children's Albums.

The vet said the chicken wouldn't make it. But Tom T. said "We'll just wait and see.."

The chicken "adjusted" and got along fine.

It's a very good and inspirational song.

I saw an adult chicken with a crossed beak like your little one. It was an adult chicken a year old and was in someone else's flock. I watched the chicken eat and the owner stated that the chicken has done just fine and is a hen and lays well. I was one hat came in from a hatchery order. Your little fellow is sure cute and is worth letting nature take it course. Although a little extra help never hurts in providing shelter and making sure it gets enough extra food and water. Good luck.

I believe it is all the in breeding and lack of new blood for the BCM's. We have such limited stock.
I have seen several of these chicks with various problems suffer and die. I usually give them 3 days and then try to make an educated guess. If the bird is suffering still I cull it. It is what nature would have done had I not intervened.

He seems to be doing well:) He is moving around as well as the others:) I have to really look to tell which one he is now. At what point will I know if he is eating and drinking like he should?

ETA: My son has been calling the chick Buddy. It is the only one with a name yet
