Good evening to everyone! I really need your help in order to solve this problem.
As a beginning, I want to say that I have many animals, from many kinds and I am experienced in taking care and treating them. However, in this moment I really don”t have any idea of how can I help one of my ducks...
I have 4 ducks: 2 Pekin females (2 years old) and 2 males (6 months old). I didn”t choose them when i bought them as ducklings, I simply wanted to save them from being grown for meat, like I”ve did for the chickens and others.
Unfortunately, one of the female duck is limping for more than 14 days now. She prefers to sit in one place, she is probably in pain because she is not walking with her sister like she used to and comes just to eat and drink some water. Also, I see that she is not laying eggs like usually (that”s a detail, I don”t know if is useful). She is not able to go in the pool and swim, so we put her there daily to remain clean, even though I see that her feathers are not that white and shinny as they used to be because she cannot maintain them well right now. Also, she cannot do that thing ducks are doing, after the bath when they start to shake their wings, staying somehow on their toes. All of those just because of that nasty leg... Both legs look ok, I”ve analyzed them several times and I don”t see anything abnormal. But she is eating, drinking water, she enjoys the pool when I put her there for the bath.
I thought that it might be an injury on the feet but, like I”ve said, I checked and is not. Then, I thought that the leg might be fractured but I think that in that case she wouldn”t walk at all. Or could it be the males fault that, because of their mating gesture, to jump on her and hurt her in any way? Is it better to separate them? They have a very generous place they share, but they always prefer to stay together.
Another thing, my ducks” favorite food are snails and because of the rainy weeks that were here, they have eaten a lot of them (maybe it helps with something).
I don”t know what to say... seeing her like that and realizing that I cannot help her in any way because i don”t know what it might be, it makes me angry.
I came in here because is the only way I can get some useful advice and information about this problem. In here, where I stay, there are no vets who treat ducks or other animals like this, or if they do, they do it wrong, so I cannot really trust them in such a situation.
