I havnt been on in a while. Things were going great with my ducks. The mallard and pekin. Woke up yesterday morning and my husband had left garage door open and the mallard was gone. They were in the pen and I don't know if he learned to fly or what , but he's gone. Looked all day and I havnt given up but now the other one is very upset and looks for him and he won't just relax or even play in the water. My mallard was more friendly with people and the pekin always followed him and they played all day. I'm doing my best to be his buddy and help him but will he be ok? Everyone is telling me go get another one but will that even work? I don't know much about the behavior and social stuff with pekins. All I know is this guy is heartbroken about his friend!! Please help me

Maybe your Mallard will come back again over the next few days. If not then I would get another duck. The behavior of your Pekin might never be the same as before or it might just fall back into the same routine but if you leave it by itself it might get really lonely. Some ducks don't mind solitude but your Pekin doesn't really sound like one that will. But then if you have chickens? maybe he might adapt to them.

Thank u, I really was attached to him, to both of course but I just hope he's ok and he comes back:( if he does do I get his wings clipped?? I am going to the feed store to see about another duck. Luckily I'm a stay at home mom and I can keep him company, doesn't like to be held or petted much, the mallard did, but I'm trying to be his pal. He's so pitiful. We both are very sad:( thank u for replying and with a positive mes. Few people keep saying he's gone he flew away get over it. But it's just not that easy

No it's not that easy, if you do get another duck, make sure to let them see each other but through fencing for a couple days to a week depending on how well the bond through fence. And if you get a duckling it should be as large as your Pekin about 4 months old before putting them together,. So sorry about your Mallard hope it does come back home.
