One of my hens came home with chicks... and we don't have a rooster!!! What breed is one of the chic

Well so far no such luck. Went for a walk to see if I could see anyone had any chickens or even a coop and the place I saw that had chickens in their yard at one time was like a half mile away at least and I saw a coop in their backyard but no chickens in it, they had an enclosed pen too they wouldn't get out. It must be new cause I know I saw chickens in their yard at one time. So anyway, this really is a mystery, who the heck has been the rooster around here? All the other places from what I saw didn't have any unless I just couldn't see them. I'm almost even beginning to wonder if it might have been a wild grouse / partridge that could have been the dad since we have them around. It's really strange.

Maybe there are wild chickens roaming around? You said there are woods, right? They might be in there....

This could be it. Some chickens just go off on their own and hatch a clutch. Other places, especially with one or two people around with low animal ethics, they will just release unwanted roosters. When I was in Hawaii there were wild chickens everywhere. They were like the smaller cities version of pigeons. I think it was mostly escaped broodies responsible over there! They were all on the 'game-y' side and mostly hens.

It's really strange, it could have been a runoff rooster or something and I just happen to not see it but I really don't know. If someone does have chickens around here they have them where I can't see them, I've never seen any wild ones. Anyway, my chicks are now just over a month old. Still have no idea what the brown one is especially since it's getting some grayish-white feathers and has an unusually long neck for a chick though it's not showing it here and it's also smaller then the other one and more docile and not flighty unlike the other one, I named it Cocoa. Haven't decided a name for the other yet. Some of my other chickens are yet to be named lol.

Yeah I recently found out the mom is not full ameraucana, I looked into it. True ameraucanas have certain traits and stuff and only lay blue eggs, if they lay green they're not full ameraucana which makes her an easter egger. When you cross a bird that lays a blue egg with a bird that lays brown or tan, the offspring make green eggs. Kinda like how yellow + blue = green, red + blue = purple etc. Now this makes me think of what might happen if you cross a white layer with a blue layer... maybe get light blue eggs? I should maybe look into that.

Here's an update of my chicks being their now just over 2 months old. The white one turned out to be a roo cause of the comb, and the dark a hen. The white kinda reminds me of a silver lakevelder but don't know if that's what he is, he's half ameraucana cause that's what his mom is but don't know the other half. The dark female baffles me still, she's still dark brown/black based but now she has white lacing and barring all over. Some might come from the mom but what's the other half from?
