I could hardly believe it, but one of my new geese just laid an egg. I know it is a goose egg because the chickens and ducks are cooped up today.
I thought geese did not lay this time of the year. I saw them getting down to business in the wading pool a few days ago, but never thought I would find an egg!
It is on the small side for a goose egg but I am guessing it is her first.
Can you hatch the little eggs out or do I have to wait until they get bigger.
Are they supposed to be laying? When do they stop.
I think it is from the Africans but I also have a pair of Pilgrim.
Any ideas on the hatching part?

Quote:As a rule waterfowl are less seasonal in the egg laying department then in sperm production. Put another way, early and late eggs tend to be infertile. And just because the male is mating it doesn't mean he is producing sperm to fertilize eggs.

Is it possible that it found a random duck egg out in your yard? There was another thread where someone's goose had found a chicken egg and tried to set it.

one of my newly aquired geese has laid an egg today also![IMG] isnt it to late in the year for them to be setting a nest? I picked it up because I dont want any "babies" this time of year, but this normal[IMG] isnt spring a little more appropriate?
