One of my Peahens is missing

Lorrir, hate to be blunt but better you know something got it. So you can prepare for others.

Full grown peafowl do well free ranging, because they can fly and roost high. Still peahens get taken after they go setting, after all they will be on the nest for 28 days. The most danger is for peahens and peachicks. Depend on your area and predators , many people free range peafowl with good luck and in many colors.

Dont give up on the color white and others, just keep in mind they cant hide.

Guess on what took your white. Dont know what predators are in your area, greathorn Owl will take them off the roost(sometime even full grown)
Bobcats. Could even had been the two leg one, I lost some free range peafowl years ago, few week later my neighbor call wanting to now if I found them,as someone was trying to catch his. People sometime thing they are wild? give a new idea about FREE range!!!!

Best of luck with your peafowl.........

Just wondered if your peahen ever came home or you found what happened to it?

I raised my two from babies too and last month had a dog attack. My 3 1/2 month old was missing for three long cold nights. The third night I "thought" I heard it calling from very far off, so I yelled and yelled for it, so it could find its way, as my other pea was not responding.

I gave up as it was cold out and since I dont hear too well, thought maybe I was imagining that it was my baby and that is was a goose or owl I heard. I had such a happy ending, went out to water and feed them that next morning and there he was, pacing the face outside the pen where I had the other penned up. Poor things plus the guinneas have to be penned most of the time anymore since the dog attack.

As a side tho, we have been having a very frigid weather, a friend called to tell me she lost her new baby so I started watching mine, the youngest looked cold this morning so I brought two very large young peacocks in the house now.

I do love them tho, was so happy mine came home.

I have two peahens left. I also have 19 hens/roosters and 15 turkeys. Plus three young cows. They can all see the house from their pens. So they all hang together near the fence line just wanting to socialize. The peas roost on the roof of the turkey pen, I hope these two will be safe.

I have started to feed the peas cat food as a treat in the morning when I feed everyone else. So now the peas are hanging out on the back porch when the rooster starts crowing.

Gosh it nice to be wanted, even for the food.
