Our leghorns free range with two dogs in an urban neighborhood. We have secure block walls, no known predators. Dogs are totally chicken safe. One is missing. Has been missing for two hours, starting at early dusk. No experience with them flying our 8' high gates. Big question, can one live alone? We have three more arriving as chicks in a month. Will one 6 mo old chick be able to survive alone till our babies are old enough to provide a new community?

did you find her yet? If not then I would try to find another hen or 2 on Craigslist. I know some people that have raised a chick alone but never and adult.

If she doesn't show up this morning, look everywhere a chicken could possibly squeeze into. Nearly every week a someone here on byc loses a chicken, only to find them days later squeezed into some seemingly impossibly small and hidden area. I certainly wouldn't give up hope at all yet. Good luck!
