One of my 3 GLW from TC

Don't get me wrong, this chicken is absolutely precious and looks exactly like the rest except the rest have the rose comb this one has a straight comb. Somebody must have been out getting some on the side.

Lots of hatchery and even some breeder Wyandottes have single combs.
Rose combs are linked to a slight amount of infertility so they've bred in single combs to combat that. Rose is dominant over single so a Rose bird can carry single sight unseen. When two carriers are bred some offspring come out with singles.

Very common in hatchery GLW.

Allegedly.. some keepers keep a straight comb in their flock to prevent the infertility said to take place after several generation of only rose comb cause by slow sperm motility.

Since rose is dominant to straight comb.. some of their flock may be sporting rose combs but have a hidden straight gene underneath.. when bred to another bird with the same hidden straight gene.. will produce a portion of straight combed offspring.. please note this is a very novice explanation according to what little I've learned and am able to keep straight in my mind/memory.

So basically it's a breeding quality issue.. but still GLW with incorrect comb type.

I think they're kinda pretty. Laced Orpington are starting to become popular.. but shank/skin color still say Wyandotte.

What about this love bug. Not from same place. Was supposed to be araucana or americauna 🤔 did ask before but somebody told me when she was a chick she didn't have a beard. Isn't this a beard?

I was told it was an EE is that still right?

Ok just checking. But side question, that's considered a beard and muffs right? Seems like it should be an obvious yes but I don't want to assume. First time with chicken with face floof.

I went and looked at baby pictures, and the houdans, polish, faverolles and EEs showed muffs but almost no beards until after about 8 weeks or so.
