One thing you chickens did that made you laugh today...

My girls have gotten used to me feeding them stink bugs every day that we have collected from the house. I usually just open the back door and feed them on the porch. Well, now they have associated the back door with food, so they come up and peck at the door like I'm going to open it and give them some food. It cracks me up every time.

That's so funny!!!!
I always let my chickens out, then go inside for a bit, and if I stay inside for a longer period of time, then they'll come to that door. So, one day I was doing vocab, and they were out and I hear this little knocking I was like 'What the?' so I just ignore and keep doing vocab then I heard it again, and I went to the door and they're all crammed on the doorstep looking for me and some food. XD

Our roo used to bring the girls with to the front door and peck at it and if that did not get me there he would crow till I answered. They know where to find the keepers of the food.

One of our hens followed my father in law into the outside room but stayed on the step when he closed the solid door then locked the security door so she was locked in between the two doors on the step. My husband had come out of the green house and kept hearing a quiet noise and he said he looked around but did not see any of the girls he started to walk off and the sound got louder so he went back and checked when he unlocked the door she came running out. They are always behind us and my fnl was clueless. Now I check when he has been out there, just in case.

Our dog and chickens are usually kept apart for safety reasons. When the chickens were smaller, the dog used to chase them and try to get hold of their tail feathers. Well, today I reached in to get the chickens waterer and all three chickens came running out. The dog was walking behind me. I gave her a command and she stopped. The chickens all ran up to her and she stayed still. One of them got even bolder and went nose to nose with the dog (shepherd/collie mix) and when the dog went to sniff back, the chicken pecked the dogs nose really hard. The dog looked at me like "what the *&%$".

Wish I had it on video.

We had just done bumblefoot surgery yesterday on one of our girls, took about 2 hours, wrapped her up really good. I came out this morning to find her standing in the middle of a puddle of water just standing there looking at me like the happiest chicken in the world. hahahaha, then we had to reclean and rewrap her feet.... She definitely made me smile though! lol

I took one of my hens off the nest so she could get some of the treets I brought out for them before it was all gone. So Digger, that's the hens name, was eating and as happy as a clam. The next thing I see her do is squat down with her stomic almost touching the ground, and she starts to waddle over to the coop. She climes into a nesting box, makes a grunt sound, drops an egg, and shoots out of the box over to the plate of treets! It was the funniest thing I have ever seen!

I went out early this morning to turn on the hens' light (since it's like 10 degrees) so I turned it on a bit earlier than usual, and they all woke up, hung their heads and closed their eyes. I was like 'Now, girls, you gotta wake up!! Get your blood rushing to keep you warm.' So Buttermilk took her one foot off the roost and stretched her leg with her wing. It was so cute!!!

Our mean Rachel, who is in her own yard because she can't get along with others, was allowed out to be with the flock just to see how she would behave. I was on my way to see where she was and came upon her and her sister they both stopped dead in their tracks and absolutely side by side stood there like a couple of kids caught doing something they should not be doing. They just stood there for about three minutes looking at me as if to say "Ummm we didn't do it and grandpa let Rachel off her restriction"

Sadly to say it took Rachel a whole five minutes before she started to very aggressively mount the younger hens and Phoebe will hold them still by grabbing them by the back of the head or neck (not funny). So Rachel was put back on restriction. Phoebe is fine by herself but with her sister she is mean.

Haha! My chickens were chasing a roll away tomato around the coop for almsost five minutes, while there were other one just sitting on the floor!

So Here In DE I Have A Rooster And Five Hens, (Miss Clucky) (Mistress) (Dumplings) (Ding) (Dong) And My Rooster Formally Named Stinker Is Now Named (Valor) Because We Had Three Foxes Come In To Take The Hens, And They Ran Away 15 Minutes Later With Patches Of Fur Missing, Clipped Ears, Chomped Snouts, And Tails Between Their Legs, And Valor Stood In Front Of His Hens And Glared At Those Chicken Foxes. (I Laughed So Hard When They Ran Away Cowed, My Brother Doubled Over Laughing Because Valor Began Running Around Like Mad Because He Had Fox Fur In His Beak And Poor Valor It Took Him Two Hours To Remove That Gunk.)
