I like the lower one better, seems to coordinate nicely. The ginger in particular seems to suit the tone of the center block.

Good, then it's just a matter of the tedious task of making a dozen of the same block, then a border around that to tie them together and so on. I also like the ginger. It's hard to get a deeper gold without going either yellow or orange.

I have four blocks finished of the twelve and I placed them around a corner to show how they connect, one of the reasons I chose this block, the way it "corners".

I think after this round, a border of either the gold in the center block or a chocolate brown would work. If I had more of that green, I'd love that, too, but alas, only a tiny amount. I always regret buying only a yard of fabric when I order, but you never know how it will look in person. I need a border with some darkness/deepness to tie this round into the deeper colored center block.

I agree that the darker edging will tie it in nicely... it is coming along quickly!

I have five blocks completed and a few more partially constructed. I can't wait to get done with this round and go to the next. I'm considering hand quilting this one. It's so darn cold, a quilt on my lap will be a good thing, even if carpal tunnel is not.

okay, seven blocks are done, five to go, but considering the border now. Brown, green or gold? I don't think I have enough of the green to do this, but may be able to get another one similar or more deeper olive like the center block. I do have enough brown and gold like in the center of the block for a 2" border around this stage of the quilt. Wish I had enough of the other, darker gold of the first border, though.

I like the green or darker gold, the brown is too stark to my eye...
I agree, it's a tad dark.

More of the Olive would have been cool...

I wish. I got it at thousandsofbolts.com as a fat quarter or a short cut and it's probably not available anymore. I have another green similar in tone, but it has a larger print and may not work, plus, I'm pretty sure I don't have enough of that one, either.

It seems like the ones you end up liking best are the ones you couldn't get much of to start or you weren't sure about when you got them, lol...just no way to tell about some things till you see them in action. Some colors you have laid out for pictures on the bolts and I wasn't crazy about, but pair that same fabric against the right other toned fabric and all of a sudden it looks totally different.

That faded tapestry-looking one I had bypassed time and time again in Walmart, and others in the same print but different colors, just did not care for it, but the gold tone was what I wanted for these blocks, or close to it, so I got it. Paired with other fabrics, it looks much different to me. I just bought a new couch so I was trying not to charge too much that I have to pay off this month or I'd probably have done another thousands of bolts purchase.
