Ongoing Quilt Projects, Continued from the "No Appreciation...." Thread

He is a pretty boy but I hope I don't have him much longer. I live in a city and no roos allowed. Have a friend who is adopting him but we never seem to get together on this.

I really didn't know Hobby Lobby had their own thread brand. Around my area their sewing space is pretty small. I used to find nice fabrics there but they are so limited now I simply don't look.

I have two Hobby Lobbys in two different directions, both just over an hour away. One is rather small, in Dalton, GA. The other is a fairly large one (I guess, have only been in two) in Cleveland, TN. Some of their fabrics are really nice brands, others are sort of off-brands that don't have as nice of a feel to them, but I've used them and they do okay. They do have things made just for them you can't find anywhere else. I never go there unless we are going to Golden Corral in Cleveland, which is directly across the highway from Hobby Lobby. That happens about once every two years, though. So, my threads I mainly shop for online. On rare occasion, I get a thread at a quilt shop.
The thread I just ordered was a good sale from Sew True. They seem to only have Maxi Lock and Gutermann, if I recall. You also have Create for Less and other online outlets. Have you ever used Gutermann threads? I've used those for both hand and machine quilting in times past, still have some, but not for a huge project, not enough of any one color. I wondered about Connecting Threads brand.

Reports from those using connecting thread's brand on the long arm is that it is lintier than signature so I never tried it. I used to use Gutermann in regular machine, for years that's all I used for a very long time for sewing clothing: I learned about it back in the early 70's. I don't like coats and clark threads, linty and nubby. I honestly have never seen large cones of Gutermann for the long arm. I tend to use large cones for piecing though at the moment am using some small spools of aurifil that I need to use up. 2 others that I didn't about are Superior Threads and Metro (mostly poly on Metro) . Superior has lots of cottons and very nice threads, a little pricier than some.

The 2 Hobby Lobby's closest to me have very small fabric areas. I stopped in one about 20 miles from me and was surprised that they had a larger one and had some nice fabrics. Haven't looked at thread there for years except for cross stitch. I also order most of it online and get a discount on filtec and Sulky because I'm still listed as a dealer.

I tried drawing diagonals for the half square triangles. After the gym and working outside my arms and neck were too tired so only did a few. This quilt has lots of triangles in 2 sizes. Once I get these done it will go together pretty quickly I think.

I think at some point, I'm going to try Isa Cord. It's pricey, but as far as I can tell, everyone raves about it. I'm going to try to do some more colorful quilts that use the brighter MaxiLock threads I have after another project I have in my head to do, then maybe I can justify buying more thread. I don't make enough $$ to just keep buying stuff, throwing all I make back into the hobby. I need that money for other things, too.

Wow, I haven't gotten alerts for this thread in a while! I just caught up on 3 or 4 pages. I thought you all were off doing quilty things and not posting.

I love IsaCord. I was buying it when I had an embroidery/sewing combo machine and when I traded that out, I kept the thread. I love using it on runners and other small projects for pretty decorative stitching.

I use mostly King Tut for quilting and piecing. I love the colors and the quality is great.

I wish I had known you like to use serger thread, Cyn. I just gave away a huge box of it.

I subscribed to Leah Day, thanks for the link. I am trying to improve my free motion on my sewing machine. Now I have plenty to watch on You Tube TV when I am sewing.

My MIL loved her quilt. I hope she is around for a while to get good use out of it. I am doing another tossed 9 patch variation called Nine Patch Madness from Missouri Star Quilt Co.

It's coming along, but we are having new flooring put in in our "service entrance", which is just the back entry leading from the mudroom and goes up a half floor and down a half floor with 2 landings, so I haven't been in my sewing room much in the last few days. We tore the nasty indoor/outdoor carpet out and are getting all the staples out. It's as if someone gave a bunch of kids some regular staple guns and power staple guns and told them to have at it. You can tell when they started because the steps are absolutely covered with staples every half inch... and when they got bored where the steps have maybe 6 or 7.

Terrie, you gave me some King Tut thread once, as I recall. Loved it! I had forgotten about that, but it was around the time of the house fire and renovation so, lots of stuff back then was just gone from my brain, I guess.

King Tut is made by Superior, nice thread! Some amazing variegated colors. Here is one set of shelves of thread. Why I told speckled hen she was welcome to see if I had a match. LOl I have another partial unit with regular spools. Yes a thread junkie. These shelves are 6 feet tall and nearly 4 feet wide. Most have 4 cones on each row. The boxes are full of pre-wound bobbins.
