Ongoing Quilt Projects, Continued from the "No Appreciation...." Thread

Pics
A lighter color will pop the quilting in the darker plain blocks and blend in with the prints as will the darker golds. I always stretch the threads across all of the fabrics to see what they do. On the spool they tend to look different than they do when unwound. It gives you a better idea what they will do when quilted. On the spool my first thought would be a darker gold.

Well, since the backing it not heavily patterned, it will show and I'm not all that superior at machine quilting yet, so I'd rather it not be showcased yet, LOL. I'll stretch them across the fabrics, I know what you mean about them looking different. I see I really need a pale to medium yellow thread. I have purples and greens and variegated stuff, then the neutrals, even a hot pink, but no yellows. I love the pale gold, but I know there isn't enough of that to do this entire quilt, or I'm pretty sure.

I tried to take pics, but not sure you can really see it well enough. I stretched the off-white cotton thread and the darker gold (called Rum) across the backing, the gold stars and some of the other colors on the front. Gosh, I can see that the cotton is thicker than the polyester serger thread for sure. I wish it was 50 wt, but maybe it will be okay, just won't go as far in the background as a thinner thread. Click for closer up.

Is it much trouble to order more? If that's the one you are drawn to, I think you should go with that.

Well, it can be done, if I can find somewhere to order that doesn't add shipping that doubles the price of it. If I decide I have nothing I want to use, I can order what I need, but I'd rather use something I have here if anything is suitable. If I order, I'd probably order a pale yellow thread.

Wish you could come over and pick one from my collection, would gladly let you use it. I also like thinner thread for quilting and piecing in most cases. A light would blend in except in the dark squares but you could do some sort of straight line quilting in those.

You can also use that light yellow on the top if you have enough and another color in the bobbin. I do that often.

Cheaper to pay shipping ;)it's a trek from here to there. Drove to Atlanta a couple years ago. Beautiful through the Georgia mountains.
Sure. I just watch too many movies. Too many road trip movies :D I'd love to go on a road trip across the US, any excuse and I'd be finding a Winnebago and hitting route 66 (or whatever the right route is)
Seriously though, it's a shame you guys don't live local to each other so you could swap materials and sound out ideas in person.

We love it here, not so much around Atlanta, which one of my real estate clients called "Hell-anta", LOL. My husband was born in Atlanta and his family has been here since the 1600's, if I recall, helped found the state.

I did find Maxi Lock thread on sale for a killer deal, just $2.15 for a cone! Even with shipping, it brings it to only $3.33/cone for 3000 yards. My machine does well on that serger thread. It was recommended by my friend, Angie, Miss Prissy on BYC, though she hasn't been here in a long time, used to be a moderator if you remember her. She makes gorgeous quilts on her Tin Lizzy.

This is my dream quilt machine, 18" throat space, ahhhhh! It's about $3000, though that is much cheaper than the Q'nique which is similar but has only 15" there.
